GTX 760 Issue

Go to solution Solved by SpecTre12345,

also do you really think ill need 4gbs considering i only use one monitor for gaming besides a smaller second monitor for anything else?

I would get the 4GB card, realistically 2GB of VRAM just isn't enough anymore for 1080p gaming. 2 760's in SLI have about 780 Ti performance, couple that with 4GB of VRAM it's a pretty decent setup that can carry you at minimum 2 years time.

So long story short i was a dumbass and hopped on the newegg msi gtx 760 2gb deal on monday...anywho i didnt do enough research to realize it wont work in sli with my currenty 4 gb model *derp* unfortunately the 4gb model is sold out at newegg and its pretty expensive anywhere else compared to the 2gb model. with all this said I look at it as two options one being send the 2gb model back to newegg and shell out the extra cash for the 4 gb model which would be a squeeze on my end or two keep the 2gb model and sell the 4gb model and i think i could get 200 usd for it since i havent used it for long. What is your opinions?

You might as well just send the 2GB model back and get another 4GB model, with newer games they tend to use more and more VRam...

If you can return it without losing money do it.

I would sell the 4GB 760, and buy a GTX 970 with the extra money.

But if you want to SLI 4GB 760's is the best option.

Theoretically it will still work. You will just be capped at 4 gigs total, 2 from each card instead of 6

 eGPU Setup: Macbook Pro 13" 16GB DDR3 RAM, 512GB SSD, i5 3210M, GTX 980 eGPU

New PC: i7-4790k, Corsair H100iGTX, ASrock Fatal1ty Z97 Killer, 24GB Ram, 850 EVO 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD, GTX 1080 Fractal Design R4, EVGA Supernova G2 650W

sli will not work with two different memory variations nvidia even said it wont work anymore. From what i understand from newegg i have to pay for shipping. other than that no i dont lose any money. also do you really think ill need 4gbs considering i only use one monitor for gaming besides a smaller second monitor for anything else?

NVIDIA requires both cards to have the same amount of VRAM to work in SLI. People who tried to run cards with different VRAM amounts found no luck the majority of the time getting them to work together (there are a few cases many drivers ago where people have gotten them to work, but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore). Also, VRAM doesn't stack. So even if he could get it to work, the cards would only have 2GB of VRAM usable, it would go by the card with the least amount of memory.

No problem, when you get everything up and running properly you will be glad you went with the 4GB model setup instead. 760 SLI is nice cost effective setup that equates to a decent amount of performance. Add in the 4GB of VRAM, and you have a nice setup that won't be bottlenecked by the 2GB of VRAM on the standard cards. Which means you get to keep your setup for a longer while, and will be well prepared for future game titles.

So to update I ordered another 4gb model! I happened to get ahold of a factory refurb for a good amount cheaper considering Amazon was charging way too much and newegg was out of stock! Again thanks for all the help
