Power supply for gpu

So, i was looking at the rm850 corsair power supply. I noticed that the back states that it has 6+2 pcie and 4+4 cpu slots. So my question is are the 4+4 and 6+2 slots the same such that i can use 2 msi gtx 970 in sli which requires a 6 and 8 pin respectively

4+4 is for cpu power, the 6+2 is for gpu, they dont fit the same to prevent people mistaking them

Yep. The 4+4s are for the CPU while 6+2 are for the GPU. Just make sure you have two 6+2 cables.

Going by the information on the Corsair website (http://www.corsair.com/en-us/rm-series-rm850-80-plus-gold-certified-power-supply), definitely.

How do you tell? I'm rather confused as i saw a picture of it and it has 5  6+2 pcie and 4+4 cpu slots...Does that mean they are similar?

It has six 6+2pin PEG connectors. A GTX 970 needs two PEG connector per card. Theoretically, you can used put three 970s in tri-SLI if you base only on the connectors.

 

As stated already, the 4+4 pin ATX12v/EPS12v connector is for the CPU (the connector that you plug into the motherboard along with the 24-pin connector). They are NOT the same as the 6+2 pin PEG connector. Do not attempt to plug the 4+4 connector to the GPU, and likewise, do not attempt to plug in the 6+2 PEG connector for the CPU.
