Greetings!

As the topic says am getting some new hardware.

The system is for gaming, streaming, webbrowsing, youtube etc (and a little oc) :)

Currently system is :

I5-3570K oc to 4,2

Maximus Formula V

GeForce GTX 680 2 GB DirectCUII stock

Corsair Dominator 1600mhz 2x8GB stock

2 SSD 1x840EVO 500GB 1x840 PRO 120GB

2 regular HDD 1xWD 500GB 1xSG 2TB

Samsung 27" LED syncmaster

Corsair AX 860i

New upgrades is :

I7-4970K

Asus Z97 Pro Gamer

Asus GeForce Strix 980

Asus 27" ROG Swift

and maybe change the memory to Corsair Vengeance pro 1866mhz 2x8GB

So, the reason im gonna upgrade is that my fiance want's to get into gaming so she is gonna take over some of my stuff, like motherboard, gpu and so on, stuff that i want to renew ;)

The question is simply,

Is all this compatible? (i am not a master in this but my reserch tell me it is)

Will it be totalt overkill?

Will it not be good enough?

Pros & Cons please :D

Would go for TITAN just for shit's and giggles, buuut, yea the price tag is kinda... to high?..

I know there are cheeper versions of the diffrent products but i simply LOVE asus so that's why asus is there :P

Thanks in advance :)

Instead of a 980 it's better to get 970 SLI, huge performance increase but not a huge price difference

1) Yes

2) Yes

3) Don't change your RAM

4) It's overkill so definitely good enough

Pros: It's nice and fast

Cons: Odds are apart from graphics performance your system won't perform any better...

Single GTX980 is the better option tbh, as it removes any compatibility issues with SLI.

Have you ever used SLI? The only game I have EVER found that has sli issues is minecraft, but that's not even a problem speaking one card will run minecraft fine.

Used to run 9800GTX's in SLI.

And i play quite a few old games which tend to dislike multi-gpu setups.

I haven't run into any issues when I used sli 670s and when I use my current 780 sli setup.  Even if there were any issues you could easily disable sli and have no issues running those old games.  Maybe back in the day there were issues, but they have pretty much been resolved.  The only issue people have these days are sli profiles not being ready for new games that are released so they have to wait a day or 2 for it to be updated.

Wow, lots of fast and good answers :)

Sounds like the sli setup is better. Kinda thinking a bit in the future (1-2 years) i know it's not good to tell but will it still be good enough?

Btw, never run SLI and i do play a bit of minecraft ;)  so how will it work there? (saw a comment reguarding that, do i "turn off one card, or? no idea) :)

Otherwise, I have been looking at some 970's all are really cool, any particulary cards except asus strix anyone would recomend? (sorry for my english)

Thx for fast replies :)

So, i went with the sli config with 2 strix 970, havent tried it out so mutch yet but the temp of the cpu went from 22C idle to 30-35C idle, and think i got a card with a malfunction, 1 fan is noisy as hell, like the bearings are bronken, (sounds like a wire is stuck in the fan).. so i will try and figure it out, maybe send it in if i cant find anything.

Anyeway thx for answers :)
