Hi there. so i've just got a new CPU(intel)/Mobo(Asus) for my PC (spec in my profile & siggy if you need to see them).

My question is, will i need to reinstall windows 8.1 after putting in the new CPU& & Mobo

I know that Windows 8 is no longer tied to the mobo (unlike 7). instead it only requires reinstallation if a large number of things are changed. However, the CPu and mobo are two integral components to a PC that windows can track (ie, Windows doesn't know when you change your PSU or case).

I've also read that it doesn't require reinstallation, only reactivation. does anyone have some info on this?

No, reinstall windows. The INF file for the two boards will be different. Only if the boards are the same chipset (ie, Z97-Z97) it is ok.

Ok thanks, will reinstall.

Luckily, i'm using a 120 GB ssd as my OS drive, so i don't have too much to backup
