New Build Parts Advice

Trollfazz

Within the next week or two I will be purchasing the parts to build my new rig and would like your advice on the parts I've chosen. First off some pertinent information ... I live in the US, I'll be ordering everything from Newegg.com (in the hopes of keeping costs down by only paying for 1 lot of shipping) and my budget is $850. I already have my graphics card (Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970), I'll be reusing two 1TB HDs from my current rig for storage as well as the peripherals. Everything will be housed, temporarily, in my current case. The rig is going to be for single monitor gaming. So really all I need to do is buy the guts of the rig, and here's what I came up with:-

Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming 3 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128711)

CPU - Intel i5-4690K Devil's Canyon 3.5GHz LGA 1150 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117372)

RAM - Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233538&ignorebbr=1)

SSD - Samsung 850 Pro 256GB (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147360)

PSU - Corsair HX650 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139012)

All of the above, including taxes and delivery, comes in at a little over $845. Those are the only parts I need to be concerned about right now, later on I'll buy a new case and things like that. So, what do you guys think? Is that a decent build for the budget? Are there any parts you'd shake your head at and replace immediately? My budget doesn't allow much wiggle room, but I'm willing to switch things around to make the build better.

Thanks for your thoughts :)

$850 without all the stuff you mentioned? so in other words $850 to spend on everything you currently dont have? and why order everything from newegg when it can be found for less $$$, the same thing, for less :/

4690K // 212 EVO // Z97-PRO // Vengeance 16GB // GTX 770 GTX 970 // MX100 128GB // Toshiba 1TB // Air 540 // HX650

Logitech G502 RGB // Corsair K65 RGB (MX Red)

I have $850 to spend on getting the 5 parts I listed above (motherboard, processor, RAM, SSD and PSU). I don't have to order everything from Newegg, my logic for ordering from just one place would be that I would save money by not having to pay multiple shipping fees. My logic could be flawed and I might be able to save by ordering from multiple places, I'm open to suggestions.

You really do save by ordering from different places. Look at PCpartpicker.

Also, if you are buying a K sku CPU and a Z97 mobo you will want to overclock. You should get a

aftermarket CPU cooler like a Hyper212 to facilitate overclocking.

Intel Inside. Overweight guy in his 30's outside.

I plan on running things at stock for a while and then overclocking later down the line. At that time I plan on buying an AIO watercooling system ... but that's something for later ;)

Well I took a look on part picker and it seems simply ordering everything from Newegg isn't that bad of an option. Part picker had Amazon, using Amazon Prime, at the same prices (or maybe a dollar or two cheaper) than Newegg. All in all there wasn't that much of a difference.

Anyway I'm still open for comments on the parts I did pick, would anyone have picked something different (within the budget)?

Look at an Asrock Z97 Extreme 4 mobo. You can get faster RAM for a similar price. Look at 2133 cas 9. Don't worry about the 1.65V. Haswell takes it no problem.

The SSD could be chopped down to a 840 EVO they are perfectly good.

Get a Seasonic G550 or G650 PSU. I like those better than Corsair.

Thanks for the advice :)

I was thinking maybe switch out the RAM, as you suggested, with some G-Skill Trident X Series 16GB DDR3 2133 ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231617 ) seems like a logical thing to do, get faster RAM for the same price LOL I'll be considering changing the SSD, wondering if the extra 6GB of space and slight increase in performance is worth the extra cost (plus a free game!! hehe). The motherboard suggestion, is there a particular reason for choosing that over what I chose? Same goes for the PSU. I know a lot may be down to personal preference, I'm just wondering if there's anything beyond that.

@Trollfazz Amazon now charges sales tax, so you might want to update your merchant preferences on PCpartpicker to show total prices.
