college interview tips.

so i have a college interview tomorrow from a school i sincerely want to go to. my grades are decent enough for me to get in. but what are some tips and tricks to help me make the interviewer like me as a person. what kind of things should i talk about with them on a human level and not just about the university.

Do a couple of shots 10 - 20 mins before your interview if you feel nervous about it.

im good with speaking. but what topics do you think they would be interested in talking about.

Don't answer questions one worded such as "Yes" or "No" and keep answers on topic don't stray off tangent.

Make good eye contact. I can't stand people who look all over the place while they're talking to me. Use a good, firm handshake. First impressions stick. I think the most important thing is to just be yourself. If you get in being somebody else, you'll always have to be somebody else.

Depends on what they're asking... Common questions that may be asked is "Why do you want to get in?", "Why should we accept you?", or something along those lines...

 

The interviewers could surprise you with something completely unexpected or seemingly unrelated to the topic of the interview so be prepared to compose your answers on the fly...

If you can answer a question with a yes or a no then the interviewer is doing a poor job.

Just a quick reminder that in the real world (outside of mainstream employment/education) people care about WHO you know and word of mouth recommendations, and not which college you went to and what grades you got.

oh definitely. there has never been a time where i wasnt aware of that. but this is a onsite college. so i couldn't really utilize the people my uncle knows. but it isnt a columbia or NYU. its a for profit school either way.
