I currently have the logitech G430 and no sound card.

I was watching Logans video on making your own headset where he recommended the Superlux HD668B. He also mentioned that its better than most headsets. I am not an audiophile and don't have a sound card at the moment but was considering the  Asus Xonar DGX 5.1 Sound Card. Would i be better staying with the 430 or selling them and buying the HD668B and a sound card.

I mainly play Dota 2, Battlefield 4 and stream music on spotify.

Thanks

The HD668B actually benefits from a good sound card / headphone amplifier. I would recommend to buy just a headphone amplifier because the volume on the HD668B is a bit low.
Sell the logitech headset, get the HD668B, buy new earpads and finally buy an external headphone amp (like this one) if you want more volume.
I thought that these headphones wouldn't need an amp, but sometimes the volume is not very pleasant.
(PS: I did try those headphones)

EDIT: Or just buy these headphones :P  They don't need an amp or a sound card and the pads are very comfy

If you're not an audiophile you don't need a sound card. Modern motherboards have decent ones on them, good enough for most.

If you're an "audiophile" you shouldn't be getting a sound card anyways, as external amps and DAC's are better in 99% of aspects.

Aren't DAC's basically good sound cards?

As for external amp - it doesn't make up for a bad sound card. There's a weak point in the chain.

A soundcard consists of "basically" two things, a DAC, and an Amp.

The PC sends the digital signal to the sound card, which then gets converted into an analog signal, which then gets amplified by the amp in the soundcard, then sent out the headphone port.

Then the "speaker" outputs on the soundcard, only get the analog signal that's un-amplified, called the "line-level".

^ my layman's term explanation from my understanding of it.

The problem with this is, sometimes they pick up interference from other parts in your PC case, while external equipment is away from those interferences since it's outside the case. Not to mention external equipment usually has better quality components inside it.

There's a ton more reasons that soundcards are sometimes worse, but it's a load of typing I don't feel like doing right now! :D
