My epic summer project

Go to solution Solved by sabot,

That looks like a good item. If your question is solved, mark the solution that helped answer your problem. That capture device looks like it will preform well and capture your vhs tapes. :)

My parents have tasked me with an epic mission dun dun dun. To convert all of our home videos (VHS) to dvd. I did a count and we have 300+ntapes does anyone have recomendations on a good capture device I was looking at http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3875555#tabsetBasic and any good archival dvds and would any extra software be needed I was planning on getting sony dvd maker the home version of vegas for my youtube channel anyway.

Would something like an easycap work? They are very cheap, sub 30 dollars and if you look hard enough they exist for 5 or 6$. They can cap the same things and come with some software for using it to capture stuff.

I saw those but they look a bit flimsy to be doing 300 captures i don't really need software because the lesser quality preserves the nostalgia in my parents minds but if I could they wouldn't be unhappy.

I do not believe that the easy cap will die, but if that is a worry then do not get it. This one is similar  http://www.amazon.com/Diamond-VC500-Touch-Capture-Device/dp/B000VM60I8

get the easycap or dazzle they are both fairly cheap and you don't need anything too special as the video tapes are bad quality and there nothing you can really do to improve it.

Don't use the small easy caps, the quality is horrible, adds a lot of grainyness to the video.

But I'm guessing that the quality of VHS isn't that good to begin with so that $35 one you posted should be OK.

I am probably going to get the first one because it works with vegas better and the 35 dollar one has mandatory let's talk to the mothership software.
