media player for android 5.0?

Go to solution Solved by Pomfinator,

Download the MX Player Beta from here

I used VLC on 4.4 and it played everything smoothly... avi, mkv, mp4, doesn't matter.  but I "upgraded" to 5.0 last night and avi is playing all choppy now (haven't tried any other formats).

I tried MX player, but it says its not supported by my android version.

anyone have recommendations for which media player to use for smooth playback of all formats?

phone is a Nexus 5.

This is one of very few things I liked about android more than ios.  with this out of the equation I might very well go back to an iphone

Your phone should automatically open media files.  If not, there are tons of options out there.

not even sure how to get this to play video.  it could only find music on my phone, it wasn't an option when I tried to open the file through astro file manager.

the tons of options is what i'm asking recommendations for so that I don't have to try every single one of those options till I find one that works.  it'd be nice to not have to download 100 media players till i find one that works

still choppy just like VLC player, but thanks

Android 5.0 is relatively new, give developers a little bit of time to optimize apps for it.  This happens every time there's a major update to the OS.
