Hey Everyone,

I've encountered some problems with my computer where I could be using it or leaving it idle and it would suddenly freeze or crash (BSoD). It's been happening recently and it's getting more frequent. This is my first self-built computer.

Comp Specs:

Intel Core i5-3570k w/ 6MB Cache @4.22GHz

16GB DDR3 Corsair Vengeance Ram @1600MHz

1TB Seagate 7200rpm HDD

Corsair Professional Series HX650 Modular Power Supply

MSI Geforce GTX 660Ti OC PE Twin Frozr 2GB GDDR5

Asus P8Z77-V LK LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

Windows 7 Ultimate x64

I regularly dust my computer using compressed air and I don't touch the insides of my computer when I do so. I've checked the cables and everything is still plugged in.

Are there programs or any way to check for which part of my computer is failing? It's my first self-built computer so I don't have any spare parts to test. I'm in a bit of a panic. I've reinstalled Windows today and it still crashes so I know it's hardware issues.

Thanks.

Did you just build that rig today, or awhile ago?

BTW, thanks for following your own thread. Tis much appreciated! :)

Just download more RAM, that'll fix it!

I've built this rig two years ago when I first started following Linus and learnt to put my components together properly. I did enough research to just ...build my own computer but yea ~ obviously was noob at it. I've just tried out the "Resource and Performance Monitor" on windows and no errors showed up other than User account Control failed to pass cause I turned that off. It annoys me.

LOL Do people not follow their own posts?

Thanks for replying :)

It could be RAM problem.

I will try that right now and update you on it. Thanks for replying :)

Ah, okay. Nice! So you think something's buggered up somewhere hardware-wise?

Not generally, no (unfortunately). Not even Linus' other half Luke (Slick) follows his on threads sometimes. :o

Thanks for replying. :)

No worries! :)

It's probably the overclock that's causing the issues. (that's what I think)
Set your cpu to stock speeds and voltages and see if that makes a difference.

Yeah I think something is bugged up hardware-wise because I've just reinstalled Windows and... I'm still crashing. I don't think it could be likely to be a software issue.

Oh um.. I should've wrote that I'm using Intel Turbo Boost Monitor 2.6. Should I turn that off?

Check it with this http://www.memtest86.com/download.htm

I'm 6.5 hours into the test and running Pass 4 of 4. So far, no errors have shown up.

Yeah, just turn that off.

The stock boost for that particular cpu was 3.8ghz.

Disable anything to do with overclocking and run prime95 for around 12 hours.

I've figured the problem out and apparently it's nothing to do with hardware even though I reinstalled windows. It was one of the programs called "Unpark CPU" that was screwing around with my computer. I figured it was that application because when I tried to Unpark my cores on my cpu, one of the cores failed to park and I had to retry unparking the core again. A few hours afterward I started having BSoD again and I parked my cpu cores afterward. Nothing has happened since then.

Look up unpark cpu or unpark cores if you want to know what it is. There never used to be issues with it until maybe a month or two ago.

Its odd that cpu cores being parked would cause the isue any ideas why?

I will do the best I can to help in any way. However I am not all knowing and realize that I can be wrong. Ah I meant to write that one of the cores "failed to [un]park". So sorry about that. The unparked cores made my computer BSoD whenever I had it idle or when I had lots of people enter my teamspeak server. At least that's what I've noticed so far. When I'm gaming, it rarely occured probably because the cores needed the power but when my computer became idle, there were probably some sorta bugs with the program itself.

It's been around a few days ever since I parked my cores (original state) and I've had no problems whatsoever. No BSoD.

FYI I leave my computer on 24/7 cause I run 2 teamspeak servers and I'm usually around my computer quite often.
