Sudden fps fluctuations

So about a week ago my fps in my games have been fine but now for some reason they just start fluctuating really really badly. For example in LOL i cap at 60fps constantly but now i see it drop to 20 now and then constantly. So i do not know what is going on... This is happening to my other games too, such as CS:GO and Torchlight 2.

System Model: Gigabyte GA-770TA-UD3
Processor: AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Processor (6 CPUs), ~3.3GHz

Memory: 4096MB RAM
Windows 7 Pro 32-bit

Graphics card: Sapphire HD 7870

Antec Earthwatts 500W PSU

first of all the usual things i guess:
- use prime 95, furmark and memtest to make sure that your system is stable
- watch the temps while doing that
- clean your system (dust is the enemy of any PC)
- check recently installed programs (AV-Programs f.e.)
- check running processes and autostart
- maybe even check the hdd usage while gaming (stuff might not be loaded fast enough into the ram if the HDD is already working at 100%)

have you changed any settings lately (i.e overclocking or underclocking)?

I dont know why my system would become unstable because i've had this setup since Christmas. But what settings do i run them at

No i have not changed anything only updated my graphics driver

it could easily be a driver problem by the looks of it, have you tried older drivers to fix the problem?

Yeah i'll try to download an older version. ill post back my results

make sure you properly do it, uninstall old driver and then install new one :P

Yeah yeah i did that when i updated it to 13.4 =)

I have fps drop in Torchlight 2 too. Nothing seems to fix it though.

No changing the drivers back to 12.10 didn't work. (i started at 13.1 when i had the problem, went to 13.4 now back to 12.10)

have you run the stress test on CPU and GPU like mentioned above by someone else? it could be a problem in one of the components...

I will prime it and stuff tonight i guess should i do them both at the same time?

how long should i prime and memtest and furmark?

Well i did 10 hours of prime today and it came out fine. I hope thats enough and tomorrow im going to do my furmark

well i did some furmark and the problem does not exist there. But then again i had no AA on...

Well i just found out that it was happening in battlefield  3 as well...

My cpu fan died.... got a new one works fine now
