1. Budget & Location

You may have listed a heap of parts that all add up to your preferred budget but it is easier if you just list the total amount you'd like to spend and the currency as well as if you'd consider going above that budget for more performance. We need the location as well because $US are different to $AUD and $CAD ect.

I can spend $1500-$2000. I am located near New Haven, Connecticut.

2. Aim
What is the system going to be used for? Web browsing, 3D work? Different systems need different levels of performance - a computer based for web browsing and office use won't handle heavy graphic design and video editing and a proper video editing system isn't good for gaming. If your aim is for gaming, please list what sort of gaming. In the same way that different usage types need different systems, you'll need a lot more power to run Far Cry 3 or Crysis 2 than you would Minecraft.

The system would be used for gaming (Crysis 3, BF4, etc). It will also be used for photoshop (not really that often, just to crop photos for Facebook and Twitter), and just plain internet browsing.

3. Monitors
How many monitors do you plan on running? Do you plan on moving to more monitors in the future? What resolution are they at too?

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/252738-dell-vs-asus-monitor/

4. Peripherals
Do you also need to purchase peripherals such as keyboards and mice as well as monitors ect. Also please tell us if you'll need an OS such as Windows.

I have a copy of Windows 8 Pro, but will need a keyboard, mouse, and speakers.

5. Why are you upgrading?
We ask this because you may see upgrading as the only path to solve an issue but things such as driver updates, reconfiguration or cleaning can boost performance without spending a cent.

I am upgrading because my current system is starting to get slower. My i5-3570K and GTX 670 are starting to slow. I can barely get 45 fps on Crysis 3 on Medium settings with my 670. I will sell the old system on ebay, or give it to someone.

Well, what's your monitor? That's usually the limiting factor on expensive builds. If you only have a 1080p 60hz monitor, an i5-4690k + single R9 290 would max out everything on it. The build (tower only) would only be around $800 ($900 if you wanted an SSD).

Basically, let us know what monitor you're using because there's no point in having a machine with horsepower that'll go unused due to a monitor limitation.

@mostechtips: you made the monitor mistake. You'll never see the performance of those parts with that mediocre monitor.

I would get

ASUS PB278Q 5ms

Why you may ask?

Since you do a lot Photoshop and 3D rendering you probably want color accuracy.

The Con is TN is lack of color accuracy if put these two together with same picture the differences will be night and day TN the color accuracy is not good because fast refresh rate.

Like example a color of a person hair on TN will look kinda grayest but with a PLS panel it will look deep black. Just remember TN colors will look sorta bleach out. But it's up to you.

But gaming on PLS is amazing because all the rich colors

5ms is worth it!

CPU - 4790k

RAM - 2400mhz or higher ram speed will help improve render time

Motherboard - Any Z97 motherboard will do you don't need a motherboard up in 300+ price range for gaming or rendering. Asus, MSI, Gigabyte or Evga.

Thanks for your help...

For the monitor, I can either go Asus PB278Q, PG278Q, U2713HM,3 P2414H, or 3 Asus 1ms 144Hz monitor.

I will be overclocking heavily, so I would prefer the I5 or I7.

For the GPU, I could either get the GTX 970 ($350) or the R9 290X ($300).

For the case, I could get the Fractal Design Define R4 or the Corsair 500R. I also considered the H440, but it has no 5.25" bays for an optical drive.

For the SSD, I am considering an Intel 730 or MX100. The 850 Pro doesn't have a good price/gb and don't mind sitting an extra 3-4 milliseconds.

I have an ethernet cable also, so I don't need a wireless adapter.

To first poster above, there is no optical drive, but that is an easy thing to buy.
