Will a Windows 7 upgrade disc be able to be used to downgrade Windows 8 without any complications? My friend wants to use it to downgrade, he doesn't want to use Windows 8 and wants Windows 7, he's stubborn so he just ignored me when i told him about the start menu thingy. So, can you do it?

you can only downgrade to windows7 with 64 bit disc and it might be pain if you are trying to downgrade on uefi laptop

It's a desktop pc, 64 bit. My friend said if it doesn't work, he'll just get a crack. I'm just unsure if it will work,

it should work but important things is that disc needs to be only 64 bit (if you have all editions on 1 dvd that will be double the pain)

Another thing, he's put the disk in and he has to now choose a place to install windows to, it says:

Disc 0 partition 1 windows retools type oem reserved 

Disc 0 partition 2 system type system

Disc 0 partition 3 type msr reserved 

Disc 0 partition 4 windows type primary 

Disc 0 partition 5 recovery image type oem reserved

 

It says he can't install to any of the reserved ones. The system type system says windows cannot install this harddisk widnows must install on format that is ntfs. And windows type primary just says it doesn't have enough space.

 

Any ideas?

you can delete first 4 partition and install windows7 there
