i am currently buying a high end psu and in the us it is a lot ceaper.

so i wonder since i live in the uk can i possibly run a psu pluggd into an adapter long term, or would i have to buy some kind of special long term adapter?

If it's a decent PSU, you wont even need an adapter. It would help if you told us the exact PSU model, but it should be fine. all you would need to do is swap the US power cord for a British power cable and you're good to go!

By the time you pay Customs charges it probably won't be much cheaper. What size psu are you after ?
