Grounding a computer?

Go to solution Solved by TheKDub,

But is there any other way to avoid the problem? I read articlues saying that this will stop it you ground your case/psu.

The annoying part is that if I even plug in a usb or headphones it can still freeze.

Take a copper wire or something, connect part of it to your case, then the other end to the fan grill or some part of your PSU and it will ground the case, which should fix the problem.

So whenever I touch my computer case with something staticy it freezes and I have to hard reset it.

I have my psu (evga 750b) plugged into a surge protector that has the grounded light lit up.

My case (haf 912) has rubber feet between it and the psu, and my motherboard (asus m5a97 r2.0) is on the copper stand-offs.

Just connect a wire going from the case to the power supply fan grill?

Also I believe the standoffs are brass, not copper.

^ This. Carpet is a nut for carrying static. It's like a balloon, they just carry a crapton of static and love having fur from animals stick to them.

It's on a desk while my feet are touching the carpet.

Also yes, I used to correct holes and the mobo is not touching the case.

there is the issue your feet are building static electricity f which is transfered to computer and it arcs use shoes while using it as the rubber is an insulator

You guys think it would be a good idea to solder it in?

I wouldn't at first, try it out to see if it fixes it, and if it does then you can if you want.

I personally would just wrap it around a screw or something then tighten it down so it can be removed if needed.
