I am looking for a Motherboard max. 100€ which is able to overclock both GPU and CPU

- Sockel 1150

- I live in germany

- I prefer a red colored Motherboard

Which motherboard can you guys recommend me? Thanks :)

so you are going with an unlocked CPU i assume the i5-4690K or i7-4790K

This is the only board you could possibly buy with your budget that is Z97 socket (overclocking ready) and has some red accents on it...all the cheaper ones are black and blue boards...

EDIT: BTW holy balls does the motherboards cost a pretty penny where you at

A good €100 motherboard with red colours and Z97 chipset is hard to find man.

it is...at least in deutschland!

Yeah but you gotta consider that the "life standard" is pretty good here...

ok then why don't you give me 130€ to shop with so that i come back with something descent? :D

Also do you prefer ATX or microATX and what are the odds that you might want to use dual graphics cards in the future?

I won`t use more than 1 graphics card thats for sure (I am not rich) :)

I don`t care about the motherboard size but it should fit in the NZXT 410 Phantom case.

alright then...as i said if you are really dead set on a motherboard with red accents (this clearly is your limiting factor in terms of boards i could select for you) then the case is closed the gigabyte board is the only one in your price range that has that. sorry...it's a good motherboard at a surprisingly good price when compaired to other boards though it even support SLI and crossfire as a bonus.

His look is decieving when compared to some other boards that are only slightly more expensive...does your case has a window side panel?

im not sure if AsRock H97 have any bios update so you can OC.. but this would be porn. i know for sure Asus allows you to OC on their H, B, M etc..

The blood on to your heart start pumping faster when you notice me.

But is ok.

One question... is it really necessary and/or benifital to overclock a cpu? I mean I have seen some pretty huge benefits from overclocking a GPU (4gb MSI GeForce GTX 970 Gaming 4G) FPS wise.

if you are mostly gaming i would say no, for the most part...you have to be in a CPU limited scenario to see any benefit from overclocking the CPU in the first place...and usualy the goal

is to avoid CPU bound scenarios (too often called CPU bottlenecks) so in most circumstances overclocking the CPU will yield next to no benefit in most games...

BUT in the long run as the game will evolve and get more advanced and require more and more CPU processing power ONLY THEN will you start to see a real benefit from overclocking your aging CPU...

An overclockable CPU will make it relevant a little longer...but any core i5 haswell can run any games just fine as of today...if you want to last as long as possible you can go with a K series as well as with a CPU with hyper-threading if you believe that the games will keep using more and more threads and more CPU ressources (which is a given IMHO but some don't agree with that and i respect their opinions on this)

Thanks :D so can you recommend me another motherboard (red please) it should only be able to overclock the gpu. And also is it a waste if I buy a Intel i7 4790k and dont overclock? If yes which one is better suited and under the price of the 4790k?

yes going with a non ''z'' chipset motherboard and an unlocked CPU is money wasted...

could you afford this?

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790 3.6GHz Quad-Core Processor (€275.34 @ Home of Hardware DE)

Motherboard: ASRock H97 PERFORMANCE ATX LGA1150 Motherboard (€50.85 @ Amazon Deutschland)

Total: €326.19

Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

If that's too much then i'd suggest you go with this:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-4590 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor (€179.90 @ Caseking)

Motherboard: ASRock H97 PERFORMANCE ATX LGA1150 Motherboard (€50.85 @ Amazon Deutschland)

Total: €230.75

Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

BTW the 4790 boost to 4ghz on it's own and some haswell i7 unlocked like that have a hard time running any faster than 4.2ghz...so chances are you won't loose much.

The first one is totally fine I also save alot of money aswell which I can spend on different Hardware :D. It says that it runs at 3.6 ghz while the unlocked version runs at 4,0 ghz how big is the performance difference? Or am I understanding something wrong regarding the GHz?

no you are correct the unlocked K edition has a baseclock of 4ghz and a boost of 4.4ghz and the locked one has a base of 3.6 and a boost at 4ghz...but the unlocked one cost (IMHO) way too much more to justify the 400mhz difference. At this point your money is probably better spent on a more powerful GPU or a bigger SSD...

alright...but remember...many persons think that a core i5 (4 core 4 threads) is all you'll really need for gaming for a very long time and some other do believe that games will get more and more multi-threaded and at some point in time a 6 or 8 thread CPU will noticeably enhance the gaming experience...so this choice i leave up to you i don't want to influence you on that.

The core i7 as of now has improved gaming experience only in a handful of games(albeit more recent and modern games as a matter of fact) but it also helps with multi-tasking and some multi-threaded task as well. You should gatter informations on that to forge your own opinion on wheter or not you should commit to an 8 thread capable chip or if you think the money could be better spent somehwere else.

it depends on your overall budget as well obviously.

I personaly consider easier to upgrade only the GPU more often...CPU/motherboard and sometimes RAM upgrade as a whole cost more obviously and is more work as well...so i like to have a CPU that i know will serve me well for a couple more GPU generations since those turn obsolete rather quickly in my book(i like high settings and high framerates unfortunately)...some will say it's better to put all you can on the GPU and get a lower end CPU...i personaly think the other way around...but building balanced is always good.

Not saying a core i5 won't benefit from a more powerful next gen GPU down the line...not at all...but if you look at keeping your CPU for 3 to 5 years or so...the core i7 as better chances of aging well (again IMHO)

Will I be able to overclock my GPU with this motherboard http://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.php/ASRock-Fatal1ty-H97-Performance-Intel-H97-So-1150-Dual-Channel-DDR3-ATX-R_961261.html ? It´s the one you sent me.

absolutely, you can always overclock the GPU regardless of the motherboard you pick.

And you can even overclock the CPU to some extend even if it's a locked CPU you can force it to operate at the boost clock on all cores at all time and you can slightly raise the BCLK in the BIOS from 100 to 102 or 103 and this should give you a 100 or 200mhz boost or so. but it's limited but still...but anyways even 3.6ghz is a nice clockspeed.
