Hi. I finally came around to building a loop to cool a 5960x. The relevant pieces of the loop:

EK Supremacy Evo Waterblock, 2xEK DCPs 4.0 (extra umph for adding gpus later + rads are external) and 2 x 540 alphacool 45mm rads (3x180mm, silverstone fans) + MX2 thermal paste.

With an ambient temperature of 20-22C, and with the cpu on stock settings(for now), my

-idle temps are close to ambient (hottest core 24C)

but

-while normal stressing (e.g. gaming) they spike up to 32-33

and while stressing with AVX instructions (say prime95) they peak at 40-43C.

Temps by realtemp/aida64. Readings from Afterburner are for some reason much lower.

So are these temps normal for this kind of raddage? Shouldn't the twin 540s be able to keep the cpu @ ambient? They have more rad space than a 1260 Mo-Ra3! It's my first loop, so I didn't know what kind of temps to expect. Just want to make sure I didn't mess something up :)

Yeah I'd say so. Although you have rads up the arse, there comes a point when the extra surface area doesn't have much extra effectiveness cooling wise. However, when you add some video cards to the loop I think you'll notice the extra rad space kick in a little more.

Me: Yeah I just really can't get my H220 working again, I've tried everything that was suggested in the forum.

Brian (Swiftech Support): Hmm, have you tried slapping it?
