At that price you won't get an active adapter, you need to go into the $30-35 range for them.

I'm fairly certain Displayport and HDMI don't require an active adapter as they both carry very similar digital signals.

I've built 3 PC's, but none for myself... In fact, I'm using an iMac that my dad bought for me as my desktop. Awkward...

Please don't say "SSD drive." By doing so, you are literally saying "Solid State Drive Drive" and causing my brain cells to commit suicide. The same applies to HDD (Hard Disk Drive) and PCIe (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express).

That would be correct, they both carry digital signals, you only need an active adapter for converting from analog to digital, or from digital to analog.

I have a HDMI to VGA adapter, it has a micro-USB port for power, but don't needs it, works perfectly without it. :P

up to 1200p with stereo shouldnt require an active adapter. But anything more audio and video will. I still recommend ponying up for one right away.
