-snip-

You could try OpenMediaVault or UnRAID. FreeNAS might work if you have more than 2GB of RAM, and you don't use ZFS.

thanks will look into

FreeNAS is good, but don't try going on their forums - if you aren't using 8GB of ECC RAM, a RAID 1 or RAID 6/Z2 array, etc etc they'll refuse to help you.

Honestly I believe OpenMediaVault and UnRAID are better if you want it to just work - UnRAID needs you to pay if go over 4 HDDs, but for most people it should be fine.

tryed booting from the disk i burnt but it wont boot to the disk *of OMV*

Do you have a USB drive? Ideally you should load OMV onto a HDD or USB drive using the installer on a proper PC.

Also, if it's a laptop it might not work - if you try unRAID or FreeNAS and it doesn't work, it's likely that the motherboard is simply using parts that aren't supported by BSD or Linux :/

If that's the case, you could try download a FTP server for windows XP - it won't be as elegant or as efficient, but it'll get the job done (although much slower)
