Calling all forum members who have a 2600K overclocked to ~4.4GHz cooled by an Antec Kuhler 920 and Corsair SP120 Quiet Edition fans!

If you happen to fit that very specific category (or anything relatively close) I'd like to know what kinds of temps you're getting.

After about ~25 minutes of Prime95 Small FFTs, I'm at about 89C on the hottest core.  One of my cores is almost 10C less but that's always happened.

Ambient temps are a little over 27C.

Are these somewhat expected temperatures?  Or should I try to remount the water block?  I'm asking since I used the pre-applied thermal compound (I know Linus always says it's high-quality, but I'm always skeptical :P) and I don't feel like I was able to really press the block against the CPU because of the way the mounting hardware is designed.

Any feedback is appreciated!

I use that cooler, and I think its too hot xD, is your case well ventilated?, I use my cooler sucking cold air from outside, and taking it out with 2 fans on top of the case.

because if the air inside the case is hot it wont lower the temps of your CPU when going through the radiator, since the air is already hot.

Well Prime95 stresses the hell out of the CPU (so it`s good to check your OC stabillity) but it`s not the best for grading classic AIO performance since in normal work/gaming CPU will not go nowhere near 100% !

Give us some temperature reading in normal/gaming usage so we could tell you if your CPU is under good cooling or not.

On a quick look i found this review:

http://www.hardwareheaven.com/reviews/1218/pg8/corsair-h80-vs-antec-kuhler-h2o-920-review-test-system-and-methodology.html

I guess this guys know their stuff, so you might have some issue with airflow in your case or with cooler/pump itself, they got lot less heat on much greater OC !!!

The difference between using an intake or exhaust fan on your radiator is small.

Thanks guys, yeah I'll probably go ahead and remount the CPU block with some MX-4 and see whether that helps.

According to the Antec software, the liquid tops out at about 46C, so I'm thinking it's probably a block contact issue.  Maybe pre-applied compound isn't all that it's cracked up to be.

So after some MX-4 and remounting, not much has changed.  If anything, temps have gone up; one of the cores managed to creep up to 94C before I stopped Prime.

I mean, there isn't much else I can do, I suppose I just have to deal.  I know temps won't get anywhere near that high in real-world applications, so I'm sure my CPU will be safe.

I guess that's the sacrifice you make when you use 1400RPM fans.

Can we haz a picture of your case :D? maybe there is something to improve airflow, and thus making your cooler more effective =D.

Check out the link in my sig. It's a Storm Enforcer with a front 200mm intake, a top 200mm exhaust, and the rad exhausting in the rear. Unless the exhaust is somehow "stealing" air from the rad, airflow should be fine.

You know what, who am I kidding, I don't have to deal with this. I might do an exchange for a new one if I can't get decent temps on this. I mean these seem like stock cooler temps...

i know this is a long shot but if you are after quiet fans you could try the nf-f12s as they run alot quieter even at 100%

Wouldn't match my aesthetic, and I've concluded that Noctuas are overrated.  They're good, but overrated.

Besides, my fans seem fine; it's the cooler that seems to be the issue.  Luckily I can do a replacement through Amazon, so I'll just do that.  (After I finish all my upgrades and take some photos, of course. :P)
