sli 970

Go to solution Solved by Tacitus,

The G1 runs so cool on its own that it has enough headroom for SLI. In my Air 540 (very well ventilated case) my single G1 gaming 970 maxes out at around 60 degrees with 50% fan speed. I do believe SLI G1s would be quieter and similar heat-wise to two reference cards.

hey, i just bought 2 970 g1 gaming edition (non ref) and im going to do sli.

i heard that 2 non ref will suffer from heat problems in sli..
i have 3 options (i can return it to the shop):
1. the top card will be the g1 gaming, and the lower one will be ref design
2. both will be ref design
3. both will be the g1 gaming but ill add a gpu cooler, if so, have any recommendation?

thanks !

They will blow heat everywhere in the case, not directly at the other card but they will still run hotter normally. Depends on the case and airflow, is there a space between the cards or not.

Not sure, maybe if you had a second intake fan at the front or side. When I say there's headroom I mean there's like 30 degrees of headroom realistically speaking. You should be fine, but I couldn't say for certain.

The argument that the 970 draws less power and therefore produces less heat isn't entirely valid either as when overclocked these cards do pull a fair bit more than the 165W a lot of people assume they are limited to.

Not saying it will be a problem, I just prefer my cards run as cool as possible. Just get great fans for the case and you could be ok. The 540 isn't all its cracked up to be, not with shitty corsair fans anyway.
