Quick performance video and analysis: Call of duty AW

i_build_nanosuits

Hey guys!

I just made a quick video with all the good stats monitored on screen so you guys can see framerates, VRAM use, RAM use, loads on each CPU threads etc...

All settings are maxed out, GPU GTX 780, CPU core i7-4770K at 4.2GHZ

here it is:

So as you guys can see, to run optimal this game will require you to have 8GB of RAM (might get away with 6 but certainly not 4GB), 3GB of VRAM (for 1080p) and it makes good use of 8 cpu threads (maybe more i'm not equipped to test this).

The game run's very smootly at high framerates and the graphics are VERY impressive...it has to be one of the best looking game so far if not THE best IMHO...it's very well optimised

and the game doesnt feel old this time around, the textures and lighting effects are truly beautiful.

I was able to max everything @1080p (No Super sampling) but 2x SMAA and 2x Filmac SMAA cause texture shaking and I only have 2GB 770's in SLI

what's funny about this is that less than a year ago EVERYBODY on the forum was saying that 2GB of VRAM was PLENTY for 1080p gaming in the foreseeable future and that the 4GB version of the cards was wasted money...LOL :P

i'd love my GTX 780 to have 6GB or VRAM that's for sure...looks like it will be the reason to upgrade it next year...not processing power but VRAM amount...that sucks.

..and see how this games do actualy run 8 significantly heavy CPU threads...looks like the i7 was a good pick after all.

Yeah, and to think I picked up my 770's this year :/ I guess I should have waited for AMD's cards to come down in price, because I paid 380$ for both of my 2GB cards

VRAM usage is pretty meaningless if you just observe it like that. The game seems to cache tons of stuff that it doesn't actually need to, it easily maxes out 4GB on my R9 290 too. People with 2GB cards could maybe run the same settings without a problem, there's no way to tell how much VRAM it actually needs and how much it just takes.

My settings are: 1440p, native resolution, everything maxed out, cached shaders, the other 2 caching options are disabled (they cause textures to look horrible), no depth of field, 2x aa, 2x supersampling.

this is true, there are a couple options that states ''if you turn me on it will be smooter but i'll use more vram'' it doesnt say it in those words but that's what it means and when i do check those in i do get some stuttering and the game takes pauses from time to time...that indicates me that when those options are checked 3GB is really not enough...but when i uncheck them i fall in the OK zone.

Those options are the other two "cached somethingsomething" options that I was talking about, they're turned off for me as well since they make textures look incredibly bad for some reason. Even without the extra VRAM intensive options and even without supersampling the game happily takes 3.8GB of VRAM. Again, it's probably caching a bunch of random stuff, but it seems like it doesn't need to since many people with 2GB cards can play just fine at max or near max settings.

It's impressive how evenly the CPU load is distributed across 8 logical threads.

it is indeed...you can tell they spent probably an ton of time optimising this game so that it runs properly, the graphics are amongst the best i've seen and the game happily run above 120FPS at all time...it's amazing.

agree...using DSR to run at 1440P resolution ATM all the same settings and i'm still capped at 3000mb and no stutter...

Also i love that the guy from K-PAX made it in the game...i like this guy :)

that metal arm when they fix the thing on the table isn't that looks amazing...this game is truly something.

Over 100 fps in 4k for me with my 980s all maxed minus AA as it does nothing at 4k visually. 4gb is just fine.

Remember they needed to make the game run at near 60fps on weak console cpu.

How did you get your CPU usage to show up? I am using EVGA precision X 16 and HWiNFO,I can only get OSD to show GPU related stuff. The older version of precision X i was able to see CPU.

So that's what the game is supposed to look like with consistent frame rates? lol

In multiplayer I can hit anywhere from 24-91 frames just by doing a 360

Yes, the current-gen console version seems to have had a positive impact on the PC optimization.

i use MSI afterburner which has built in features with RivaTuner and this allows to show cpu threads amongst other stuff...i think you dont need afterburner you should just look up for Rivatuner in google i believe.

Looking at the quality of the textures etc, I'd say there's a VRAM cache, soaking up un-needed resources because it can, rather than "actually needs" it.

yeah looks like it...i have to agree the game use all my vram but it wont stutter like watchdogs or mordor does when it peaks...ahhh man does that game looks good though i havnt played multiplayer yet but the single player compain has the best graphics ever in a video game so far imho...is it a brand new game engine theyve developped this time around for this game? the last cod was feeling old and wierd with ugly texture packs but this one is surprisingly good looking at times..
