CPU temp spikes? Normal?

Go to solution Solved by PixelPips,

Thanks guys, good to know it's normal.

Load temps are good. Running BF4 most cores are in the 40's, with core #0 and #1 sometimes getting up to or a little past 50C. Idle temps are good too, usually around the mid 20's or lower, with again, core #0 and core #1 running a little hotter (around 30C sometime), which I assume is because they are under some load.

Yep, that's perfectly normal.

I'm patching some software and my temps have been run up a bit too.

I have a 4790K running with an H240X. Whenever I open a program, the temps seem to spike. For example, if I open HWMonitor, the temps spike from idle 25C to 40C or so. It does the same thing with many programs. I've been using HWMonitor and Real Temp to monitor temps.

When the temp jumps happen, they happen in just a second and then go right back down to normal idle temps (in the 20's). All cores do it and can spike upwards of 15C and instantly go back to idle temps.

Load temps are fine, but they do jump around some too.

Is this normal?

Thanks.

Yes, that's normal. When you do something in a computer, processing happens. The more processing that happens, the hotter your cores get. So when you open a program, it's doing a LOT of different things all within a few seconds, running the CPU up, but it goes back to normal after it finishes.

I might be wrong.

40C is about what it should be using Chrome with like 5 tabs.

25C is a nice cool Idle temp.

if the temps are over 70ish while gaming something like BF4. then i would be concerned.
