ROM Feature Comparison

Go to solution Solved by _ASSASSIN_,

What are these features you love? That's what I'm interested in knowing.

-Privacy Guard

-Theme Engine (which is also in PA)

-CM's quicksetting's tile customizations (far more in-depth than PA, with useful features I use all the time excluded instead for stupid things like sleep?)

-All of CM's Apps such as their file manager which is AMAZING

-Built in system updates rather than an app... just sayin...

-tons of customizability with button action options with both volume rockers and capacitive buttons.

-Overall performance is significantly better. I was using PA on my HTC One M7 and damn it lagged so much versus the straight GPE version or CM.

This is a follow-up to a previous post I made asking suggestions for ROMs for my old Note 2.

The most popular ROMs were Cyanogenmod and Paranoid Android and since I'm not completely familiar with what they offer on top of stock android I decided to make this post.

Firstly - I'm not trying to start a ROM war on which one is "better" or anything.

My main questions are:

  • What features do the ROM you use offer that you make use of regularly?
  • How stable is the experience?
  • As the Note 2 is a legacy device, how promptly do they (legacy devices) get updates?

PA is sorta appealing to me more at the moment since from what I've read they try to stick to the stock android theme which appeals to me but on the previous thread someone said doing stuff on it was comparatively more complicated than CM which makes me hesitate.

Oh and if someone could link me to a good beginner's guide to installing either of these ROMs it'd be much appreciated. :)

Thanks in advance.

PA has some of the most conflicting philosophy I have ever seen. They try to make an OS without gimmicks with simplicity in mind, yet it is the most annoying OSs to navigate navigate the settings and it has some of the most useless features such as card stack recents and Dynamic status bar and navbar.

Since M10 I think cyanogenmod is one of my favorite ROMs other than Carbon ROM and they have tons of features I love. That and heads up is soon much better integrated (mainly because it was already in kitkat's native code) and has basic things like blacklist that PA's hover lacks.

However there are people that like pa so you might want to hear their opinion.
