Hello,

So I just built my gaming rig which is over $2500 and I have a ssd and a terrible hitachi 7200rpm 64mb 2tb hdd.

I bought the Hitachi off ebay for $70 to help save money but turns out it is a piece of crap.

The problem im having is whenever I try to download games off steam onto it steam stops downloading and says disk is busy.

I read up on this and it is my Hitachi drive that is the problem. I can also hear it making noises so that is also a bad sign.

So I'm going to order a western digital black but in the meantime I need a hard drive to put my games on. I was going to go to best buy tomorrow

to get this hard drive. Do you think I will have any issues with this?

Sorry if i posted this in the wrong place i didnt know where to post it.

I appreciate any responses.

Thanks,

Next time post your storage related questions in the storage subforum: http://linustechtips.com/main/forum/38-storage-solutions/ :)

But don't repost a mod will move this shortly.

And no, that WD drive will be fine. Mainstream is generally the WD Blue which offers balance between performance and noise.

Good choice of brand, I'd go with either Western Digital or Seagate. Seagate are cheaper but with less rpm so that goes only for storage where performance isn't really an issue.

In your case, is there a particular reason to go with the mainstream ? You said, you put your games from steam there, I'd definitely go for WD black version which offers better performance. Besides, HDD aren't that expensive anymore but rather acceptable.

Hi there.

This drive would do a nice job for gaming. You can even keep it as a secondary storage unit if you want after your WD Black arrives.

Cheers! :)

Which Seagate drive are you referring to that has lower RPM?

... wat

WD Black is great... and wat. Seriously, you spent that much and decided that you needed to save a few bucks on the HDD? I don't understand this logic.
