I'm either going to get a mechanical ten-keyless keyboard or a gamepad.

I've had my eye on the Logitech G13.

I love my membrane keyboard (super old Windows 2000 keyboard I found in my garage), so I wont be buying the ten-keyless for typing.

I want one of these ONLY for gaming.

Does anyone have any experience with gamepads? Do you prefer them over ten-keyless keyboards?

I do, because they have more use than just gaming. I bought my CM Rapid just for gaming, however I have used it for typing short things(like replying on a forum or logging in to a service). I have used game pads before, but my desk felt cluttered while using them.

Which gamepad did you use? Most of them have joysticks for your thumb. Did it help having extra uses for your thumb?

Its been a while, so I don't remember the one that I purchased. I actually found it limiting at times, because on a keyboard I can reach more keys than what a joystick can provide(I can press ALT, X, C, V, B, N, and M with my thumb on a regular keyboard). Really just having all of the keys on a full keyboard is nice(10keyless included). With a good keyboard and mouse you can have a comfortable experience without compromising versatility, and I haven't found a solution that can beat that(this is a bit subjective though).

i use an orbweaver almost exclusively when i game, its much more ergonomical and it feels much better to use.

since op said he likes membrane keys i wold say try out a tartarus and see how you like it.

or maybe a nostromo or g13 depending on what you prefer

g13 just seems like a really dated design to me (esp compared to the Tartarus and Orbweaver), but haven't had a chance to use it

if you're sticking to membrane, the Tartarus has a really solid membrane build. did not feel cheap other than being smaller than the orbweaver - very satisfying feedback that made me realize how good membranes can be
