Hi guys, so I've been wondering what should be my best path to go with.

I've been thinking on doing this build.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/qD6Zqs

Already Purchased:

  • AMD R9 Gamer Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2400 Memory
  • EVGA 750W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply
  • Samsung 840 EVO 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
  • MSI Radeon R9 280 3GB TWIN FROZR Video Card

But I've heard so much of the FX processors being dead and that there wouldn't be any new AM3+ chips that made me think to go to the FM2+ way. However those chips are less powerful in the CPU side and I already have a dedicated graphics card.

Should I go with one of those AMD paths? or go the Intel way? (I don't know much about Intel sockets but I hear an i5 might be good)

My (leftover) budget is around $300~ might go just a little more or less.

Computer Use:

Will be my main rig, used to browse internet, watch movies and play games.

I don't know how much you're able to change, but get a ~600W PSU, an i5 4460 and the cheapest socket 1150 board (H81, B85 or H97/Z97) that has the ports and features you want. Also 2400MHz is completely useless, grab the cheapest 1600MHz CL9 1.5v memory you can find. You can spend the rest of your budget on a faster GPU, I think a GTX 970 might be an option.

edit: seeing as you already have a lot of the parts just go with the 4460 and cheap motherboard and save the 100 or so dollars. It outperforms the 8350 even overclocked and anything faster will be a waste since that 280 won't be bottlenecked anyways, unless you do video editing or something like that. Unless 'video editing' is making youtube videos, in which case a faster CPU will never pay for itself so in that case just go with the 4460.

edit 2: since gaming will be the highest load definately i5 4460.

If Intel actually skips Broadwell, Z97 might be dead, like AM3+... FM2+ is relatively new, but there's no news of any new architecture chips for it (that I've heard of)...

With 300USD I'd say, go for the Intel route if gaming is all that you'll be doing...

Can the 4460 be overclocked? I want to go that way :P I don't think it has a unlocked multiplier right?

No, you can only set the multiplier to 34 so that it always runs at it's boost clock, and you might be able to tweak the base clock. If you want to overclock, you have to get a 4670k or a 8320 and beefy motherboard and cooler. I have a Gigabyte 970A-UD3P and a hyper 212 EVO, and I only got to 4.4 GHz. At that point the 4460 still beats it in most games.

Kinda is bad though. The 200R doesn't really have great cooling performance. The fans are on the loud side. That CPU cooler isn't adequate at all for overclocking an FX processor. I also have my doubts about that boards overclocking potential.

I already have most of the stuff bought (First time I bought thinkin on FM2+, later decided AM3+, now I'm not so sure)

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/qD6Zqs

  • Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler
  • AMD R9 Gamer Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2400 Memory
  • Samsung 840 EVO 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
  • MSI Radeon R9 280 3GB TWIN FROZR Video Card
  • EVGA 750W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply
  • Corsair SPEC-03 Red ATX Mid Tower Case
  • Corsair Air Series AF120 Performance Edition 63.5 CFM 120mm Fan
  • Corsair SP120 57.2 CFM 120mm Fans

Will probably be getting a couple more fans, but right now I'm concerned about the mobo and cpu I should be going with.

I have read commetns on that board it was a 6 phase power solution and the VRM get super hot so is a not for me.

The 200r with 5 fans will have more than adequate airflow. The fans I added aren't that loud, the original case fans can be set to PWM to reduce noise. I've seen a 4.4 overclock on a FX 8 core processor with a Hyper 212 Evo, if that can do it, so can the Zalman Optima.

I also have a 8320 with a 4.4 GHz overclock. It seems high but it isn't. At this point the i5 4460 outperforms it.

well its just a $20 buck diff in price between the 4460 and 8350 (at least right now) the mobos are right about the same price.

Adding a 4460 will assure a possibility of upgrade cpu in the future? or will I have to get a new mobo? I dont know the future for the socket for the LGA 1150 socket

If you buy a H97 board you will be able to install Broadwell CPU's when they arrive and if you buy a Z97 board you will also be able to OC them. Because some VRM componentry is in the CPU itself, it doesn't really matter which Z97 board you choose but most will be 130$ish.
