Hey guys I just bought a prebuilt desktop computer, the Asus M32AD which has a pretty stock motherboard with only 2 ram slots available, one slot already occupied by a RAM that came with it, which is a Samsung 8gb 1600mhz. I'm wondering if I could buy another 8gb or 4gb 1600mhz RAM but different manufacturer. And if doing such, would both RAM work together and be dual channel? Thanks in advance.

It should work fine and in dual channel, even if it' different manufacturers. The best is ofc to get two of the same stick, but this will probably do.

Well, it is possible that they work together, they have to run at the exact same setting though.

Even then they can be incompatible and cause some weird problems.

Also, the stick you have atm isn't running at 1600MHz, only at 800MHz.

So I would definitely recommend you buy another stick, try to find the same one that's already in there.

Why??

No. Do not. It's highly unlikely to work. If you do decide to experiment though - use the exact same amount of ram and same clock speed, also do check CAS. if it's not the same - chances are it won't work. I honestly extremely don't recommend doing this. There is a chance it will work, even with different specs, but just don't.... and please get exact same specs if you do.
