Hey guys,

I'm planning on adding more RAM to my current current system that was 8GB (2x4) DDR3 G.Skill RipJaws X Series @ 1600MHz. Can I add 16GB (2x8) to this system?

Does it need to have 1600MHz as well(?) and does it need to be of the same brand/manufacturer?

Thanks in advance.

well in a sense yes you can.

few months ago from a 16gb 4x4 2133 mhz g.skill ripjaws z ram I have. I added a 32gb 2133mhz corsair dominator platinum. it worked although the timings are kinda off. then 2 months ago I removed my gskill and added more dominator platinum. fixed the timings to what seems to work and then I became a happy man.

it does work but there are times where the timings might be off and would run on the lowest speed well something like that. I'm sure someone can explain it better.

Live your life like a dream.

As long as you have available slots you can. It will be better if you get 1600 mhz, but it will work if you get something different(if you get faster stuff it will slow down to 1600, and if you get slower stuff it will bring your 1600 to the speed of the new stuff.). It doesn't need to be the same brand/manufacture, however you will want to get ram with the same timings.

Hey ArchAthenss,

As the guys pointed out, it should work just fine. The memory might run a clock speed as fast as your slowest stick. It is recommended to have same clock speeds and same CAS latency for optimal performance, otherwise your timings might be a bit off. Overall, it would work but not optimized.
