Hello Folks, this is my 1st time posting on LinusTech forum.

I'm looking to either grab a Gigabyte 970 G1 (preference) or a Strix 970 in the near future.

I'm planning to custom paint the metal shroud (the one that's covering the 3 fans) to white, but I'm not sure whether the shroud itself is removable without removing the whole heatsink.

I know the Strix 970 shroud is removable, which is why this would be my 2nd option.

Thoughts?

Removing a heatsink isn't a big deal :)

First time I did it, I took 30-40 minutes

Specs: CPU: AMD FX 6300 Motherboard: Gigabyte 970A DS3P RAM: HyperX Fury 16GB 1866MHz GPU: MSI R9 270 OC edition Case: Sharkoon VS3-S SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB HDD: 1TB Caviar Blue PSU: Corsair CX500W

*If I say something that seems offensive, please don't take it seriously, it was most likely meant as a joke/sarcastically*

so you can remove the shroud without voiding your warranty?

i plan on getting a g1 and modding the windforce logo so it's white instead of blue because blue screws up my colour scheme

The EVGA 980 ACX has a white led logo on the side.

thing is, the acx cooler has misaligned heat pipes and is just not as good of a cooler as windforce (i had a 760 acx)

and the blue light is rather secondary when in the context of the G1's binned chips

unless i've been misled

anyway

"lolwatrudoin"

"i do what i want"

On the 980 it does not have any misaligned heatpipes, that was on their 970 acx line.
