EVGA 780TI SC Reference cooler

Go to solution Solved by mujustew,

I found the issue, I had my monitor at 144mhz refresh rate, and this caused the issue, and when I reduce it down to 120mhz the temps plummeted down to the lower 30 degrees C . I don't know why having the refresh rate of the monitor at 144mhz causes my card to sky rocket, I've sent a report to EVGA about it.

Are you using after burning or anything like it? Did this start after an nvidia update?

i know you said the issue is fixed but one thing you can check (at your own risk) is the thermal paste on the gpu itself might be dried up and needing to be replaced (yes this can happen).

this is where i heard of this :

I happy with changing thermal paste on my CPU, but when It comes to GPU, me personally I dont like the idea of me changing the thermal paste on the GPU...

Ive prolly done it around 50 times or so between my past 6 cards. I get bored and do it just because sometimes. Especially with how much dust a open air cooler holds in it.
