Hey Guys,

at the moment I'm owning an GeForce GTX 650 with 2GB of GDDR5.

I'm planing to upgrade my graphics card but I'm struggling between 2 cards at the moment.

Card number 1:

3072MB Gigabyte GeForce GTX 780 WindForce 3X OC (Price at the moment: 314,85€) http://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.php/3072MB-Gigabyte-GeForce-GTX-780-WindForce-3X-OC-Rev--2-0-Aktiv-PCIe-3-0-x_918496.html

Card number 2:

4096MB Asus GeForce GTX 970 STRIX OC Edition (Price at the moment: 347,85€) http://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.php/4096MB-Asus-GeForce-GTX-970-STRIX-OC-Edition-Aktiv-PCIe-3-0-x16--Retail-_976941.html

At the moment I'm more likely to grab the GTX 780 since I could save some money there. But the 970 uses less wattage and it has the newest technology. I can't really decide.

Would be awesome if you guys could list me the pro's and con's of each card, so it's getting easier for me to decide which card I should buy.

I'm playing on a single 1080p monitor and I'm not planning to upgrade it in the near future.

Greets,

Knusperfisch

I feel that you should get the 970 just because games I feel are going to down the line lean on higher amounts of VRAM as well as by picking up the newer generation it gets you in on all the new features as well as gives you the less power consumtion benift and I feel that even though there is a 30 euro difference its worth getting the newest generation.

I would personally go for the 970 since it has the new architecture and they are easier to SLI since they require a lot less power.

Though it all depends on your budget.

If it was a ti version I would go 780. But with the options, go 970 if you can find one.

I'm also willing to pay 400€ for this graphics card if I had some information about it. http://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.php/3072MB-PNY-GeForce-GTX-780-Ti-XLR8-Enthusiast-Edition-OC-Aktiv-PCIe-3-0-x_970275.html

But I've never heard of this 780 Ti version and I'm not sure if it's worth it.

i would pay 30euros right away just to get the 4gb of VRAM on my 780...the 970 is worth the extra by far OP.

i'm biaised toward MSI cause i love the gaming series stuff i just like the design so much and the new twin frozr V is very nice and it lights up...but i agree it should come with a backplate as well and i can totaly understand this being a deal breaker...but i would still go with MSI.

I'm probably going the get the Asus one. But I got one last question, will my i5-2500 bottleneck the gtx 970?

no it should not, this is still considered a good CPU for gaming.

It will be a bottleneck to the card in CPU intensive games (AKA CPU limited) such as some online mmo's or RTS where even the fastest haswell core i7 would be the bottleneck to such a GPU but this is to be expected. Your CPU will do just fine.

I would get the 970, it's not better than a 780 "by far" like some people said but I think is worth it from the power consumption and heat output point of view(if you care about that). The 4gb meh, Nvidia is probably readying the next cards with more Vram anyways,  a jump from 3gb to 4gb is not "that future proof".
