Someone I know is selling his used GPUs, and I have a tough choice.

I'm building a new pc, and I can either buy his two used r9 280x GPUs for $300 with no tax, or get a single new gtx 970 for $420 after tax. I know next to nothing about SLI or Crossfire. I don't know how well the two AMD cards would scale in comparison, or if maybe it's worth sticking with Nvidia for the sake of upgrading to a g-sync monitor further down the road.

Thoughts?

If you were gaming the 970 would be on par or slightly better than the 280x's in pure performance. The energy and advantages of single card would win. However, the 280x's are better at rendering and stuff. I'd go 280x

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

I'll try to get the 970 personally but The 280Xs aren't a bad idea either.

Just make sure they're healthy and has minimum power-on hours.

Used AMD cards were likely used for mining, so make sure you ask why the guy's selling it also. :)
