Honestly, if it were me I'd go with either:

1) a lesser GPU and an i5-4460 (highly dependent on what GPU is currently on sale. If there's a good one on a big sale, do this, if not do #2)

2) a G3258 and a CM 212 Evo

Give a moment and I'll try to put two builds together, one for each option.

Well, honestly I really don't think that I need more than this i3, it's actually very very good, for gaming a rendering. The stock cooling is good for me, I don't plan on overclocking. I really think that an i5 would be overkill.

Gotta love sales. Fit everything in for only around $5 more. Honestly, I'd ditch the optical drive because it's really unnecessary in this day and age. I even fit in a better CPU as well as GPU, and even a better case. Enjoy.

At this budget you better go full AMD, and also a 280 and 280x is really almost the same, but the 280x is alot more expensive compare to a 280, so get a 280 instead:

Well, honestly I really don't think that I need more than this i3, it's actually very very good, for gaming a rendering. The stock cooling is good for me, I don't plan on overclocking. I really think that an i5 would be overkill.

The i5 isn't unnecessary in this day. The extra cores really help with just about everything, and games these days are finally beginning to take real advantage of the extra cores.

The G3258, because it is a K-series CPU, can overclock to ~4.5-4.7  GHz with that cooler, and so will perform way better in single-threaded tasks than the i3. Overclocking is easy and reliable, so if you're willing to build your own PC, there's no legitimate reason to avoid overclocking if you can get better price to performance. Also, if you do things that aren't single threaded, then its worth it to get the i5 instead of the G3258. Luckily I found a build that fits everything in at once, so you don't have to compromise.

I have the same i3 and it does suffer slightly in games while a good chip you will be much better off with the i5

The R9 290 is too tempting, and too close to the R9 280x you chose to ignore.
