So today, I wasn't doing anything heavy on my computer, just typing up a document on MS Word with a couple web pages up, when I noticed my CPU temps started to ramp up and down.  I have a Hyper 212 EVO on my FX-6300, and the fan on the EVO usually idles around 800-900 rpm.  But occasionally, it goes all the way up to 1500 rpm trying to cool the CPU which inexplicably gets to around 45 degrees celcius. (CPU usually idles around 20 celcius according to CPUID HWMonitor) I'm not doing anything demanding at all, and I know that these temps are safe, but can anyone explain why this might be happening? It just started to do this quite recently. Thanks.

Is it dusty by any chance? Btw 20 Celsius in idle seems like a wrong readout unless your room is like 15 Celsius which i doubt...

As long as you aren't pushing 70c or higher then there shouldn't be a problem.

Don't forget that little cooler has to tame 6 cores. Have you overclocked it at all btw? Or turned off the AMD turbo boost thingy?

It's not dusty, and the real temps are probably around 30 celcius. This doesn't happen very frequently, but it does happen and only when my PC is idling or doing little work.

I don't have it OC'd. I haven't done any tweaking to the CPU at all

How is your airflow in your case? what case are you using?

I have an NZXT Source 220 (no window) and 4 FN V2 120mm fans. Two intake in the front, one exhaust in the back and one exhaust at the top. I also use a Sentry Mesh fan controller on all four of the fans

ok.. I dont know sorry. Maybe its just false temperature readouts.

@TRINHbot1101001 the only explanation i can think of is that speed-curve on the cpu fan-header is a bit weird. So the cpu keeps heating up until it reaches a certain point and then the fan ramps up to cool it back down... rinse and repeat.

Yeah, but I guess my real question is why the CPU heats up like that at all? I'm not doing anything CPU heavy

If the fan on the cooler isn't running fast enough the cpu is gonna heat up no matter the load its under. Like i said - sounds to me like theres something wonky with how the mobo regulates the CPU fan. But 45 Celsius in idle isn't anything to worry about even if it's usually cooler.

Ok. Is there any way I can change that? I have a Gigabyte GA 970A UD3P mobo. I don't believe it has the adjustable fan curve like some mobos do, but is there any way I can access something similar?
