How to protect a HHD from formating

Hi I need some advice I have a Windows 8 computer with a SSD for Windows and a HHD for storage and add some one accidentally formatted the storage drive by mistake. Is there a program that I can use to make it so you would need a password or something so that does not happen again. Any advice would be great thanks for your help.

I thought of that too but unfortunately they need administrator rights for other things.
