Best Fan Configuration?

Go to solution Solved by BaSkA,

Cant have a side intake with my case. i was thinking just 3 exhaust on top?

I have the same case as you do. My system is not even close to being built but from reading quite a lot from the Owners' Club from overclock.net, this is what I'm going to do:

Front 200mm intake, leave it there.

Rear 140mm exhaust, leave it there.

I bought 3 Phanteks' fans to match the color and also because they were cheap when I bought them and I'm going to put all three on top, the frontmost one is going to be intake, the rearmost will be exhaust. With that, the system should have "zero" to slightly positive pressure so no dust there.

The top fan between those two, however, will only turn on when the system is under load. That should leave the rig with a slightly negative pressure when it starts to spin so hopefully temperatures are better as the (hot) air will get out faster.

I think this is a good config because you are cooling both the GPU and HDD areas (which I will need proper cooling) with fresh air from intake fans and the CPU cooler (NH-D15) is going to spit all that hot air out through the rear and top fans. The middle fan that only turns on when under load and supposedly will make my temps better perhaps is not even needed but I already bought it so why not.

I would be careful with bottom as intake because it disturbs the airflow to the GPU area... Anyway, testing different layouts until you find the best one is always the best thing to do.

Good luck and have fun.

Hey guys, so i am looking for the best fan configuration for my case i am looking the best cooling performance, i have atm:

1x 200mm intake fan

2x 140mm exhaust fans

2x 140mm intake fans

I think i might buy different fans to replace some of these as they are very load fans, so i am open for suggestions for quiet fans

Don't know if my specs are necessary, but here they are anyways

mobo: Asus sabertooth 990fx r2.0

GPU: R9 280x

CPU: FX 8350

PSU: XFX pro series 750w

HDD: WD 1TB

Case: Phantek enthoo luxe

RAM: crucial tactical tracer 2x4gb, 1600

Thanks

Best thing is to take some time and test if for yourself.

front = intake

top = exhaust

rear = exhaust

side = intake

Noctua's are normally praised for quietness so perhaps take a look at those?

this or rear as intake to keep a positive case pressure

Noctua are over priced and underperforming

I believe it's the best CPU air cooler out there. You don't even need the fans at 100% to cool down the CPU which makes it really quiet. However, it's a bit of overkill unless you're going to do some overclocking. I would buy the 212 Evo if I wasn't planning on getting my 4790k to 4.8Ghz if the lottery is good to me.

IMO, if you want the best, the NH D-15 is the one. If you wanna save twenty bucks the NH-D14 is almost the same except for the bigger heatsink that won't let you use some high profile memories. Then there's be quiet!, phanteks, cooler master and other CPU coolers out there but I haven't studied enough about them. Have heard good things about the PH-TC14PE but I just wanted the Noctua one so bad.
