Hey all! Sometime in the next few months I want to get a 780ti. specifically the 780ti kingpin classified edition. I was looking for advice because I suck at shopping for right PSUs for such a crazy card, and I suck at picking mobos. I currently Only have a 500w and I know for a fact I'd never be able to run that thing. Heres my build right now:

i5-3570k

Gigantic air heatsink

Crappy Asus Mobo I can't seem to find on the internet... Its the bane of OC....

8gb ram 1600 mhz gskill ripjaws

500w corsair psu non modular

amd xfx 6850 (I know, it is a dinosaur.)

So basically, I would love a recomendation in psu. one that will have enough power for the 780ti that I plan to OC the hell out of... that card needs two 8 pins and a 6 pin....

Also, Mobo recommendations would be great. I'm really looking to overclock my system and bring it to the next level with that 780ti.  Here's a link to the 780ti Im talking about. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487037

Yeah a 980 would be better but when you can save 100+ dollars and have a card that is 3% slower? I can see why he would want a 780ti

The problem is no one can get 980's right now. Im pretty sure I found the 780ti for cheaper than the 1 or 2 900 cards that beat those benchmarks. Could be wrong.

You said "in the next few months"... it will 100% be available by then

Chances are there will be even better 980s and the price may have dropped , seems silly to buy an outdated card

That is a nice card as well....

I didn't know that one dropped so much, lowest I saw before was 449. You would have to be dumb to get the 980 over that. That is more than $150 cheaper for negligible performance difference. 980 will never come close to being that cheap, not this generation.

That was the mentality more or less. Im not going to scrimp on a card like I did the first time around (money constraints, highschool) but if I can save a 100 for what 3% on paper but what I assume to be negligible in actual usage, then I'll be happy. The OC room on this card is insane even on air, little alone water...

Yes, and the kingpin would probably be only marginally faster. I think the kingpin cards are cool but the price premium never made sense to me.

Im going to keep an open mind. I also understand that. I don't quite understand the "outdated," mentality though. My dinosaur of a card still gets support. So something a generation old doesn't seem necessarily outdated.

I appreciate the card suggestion. =) it is also very nice and is on my watch list.

It's not really dated, it was the last card released before the 900 series...it might be about a year old now but it's still just as fast as the new top of the line card.

Outdated is not the same as unsupported

The 980 is more powerful, consumes less power and produces less heat, and potentially there will be some better aftermarket cards that you can push crazy high, it lacks features that are on the 980, like 4k shadowplay recording, and dynamic super resolution

For the same price I would get the newer product

And instead of buying an expensive motherboard, PSU and water cooling you could buy like 2 980s or 2 780tis and get even more performance

I guess there are many ways to slice it

mind you, you are looking at a more expnsive PSU if you run the 780Ti(s) within the same model.

Yeah that is true, but still, the cost of a full water cooling loop to OC a kingpin 780ti is probably more than the cost of 2x 980s

Probably so. LTT did a video on this card this february, and they loved it. Im hoping even a marginal OC will bring it up to the new series of cards. Then maybe all the other ridiculous purchases will ensue. Now if what you are trying to say is that It would be cheaper in the long run to but a 900 because I would have to buy a new psu that in combination with the 780ti would be more expensive than a comparable 980, that is a different story. One way to solve this is to see what they release the next couple months! I wasn't too impressed with the zotac cards. =( Not that I ever am with that company.

why is he 780Ti even an option? Unless you need a new GPU NOW for some reason there is no need for that card. It is on average equal to a 970, costs more and hess less features, more power draw and greater heat output. Why is this not a no-brainer.

Do you plan on playing in 1080p? Do you plan on doing a full custom loop (if so, stick to reference cards). If you like overclocking so much, the Maxwell will get you far higher than Kepler.
