I have been pondering this myself, my mother was looking at getting an new tablet and the differences...they are minimal but there is a 100 dollar price gap. Shield looks like the way to go

This is a hard one, they're both pretty similar. I would edge towards the Nexus 9. But that's just my personal preference.

These are the differences of the two:

Shield tablet is lighter; 390 grams compared to the Nexus 9s 425 grams.

Nexus 9 is larger, 9 inches (8.9) as opposed to the 8 inches of the Shield.

Nexus 9 has (I'm assuming) a better camera, 8MP as opposed to 5 of the Shield.

Nexus 9 has larger battery, but this is obvious as it's a larger device. 5197 mAh on the Shield, 6,700 on the Nexus 9.

Shield is cheaper (At least here in the US, I'm sorry I don't know prices in Portugal) by $100

The Shield has the 32-Bit 2.2GHz Quad-Core version of the Tegra K1, and the Nexus 9 has the 64-Bit 2.3GHz Dual-Core

They both have 2GB Ram

The Nexus 9 has a higher resolution of 2048x1536 AMOLED (Although it's 4:3), opposed to the 1920x1200 IPS of the Shield.

The Shield has expandable storage via MicroSD

Both have excellent front facing speakers

The Shield has a better "Selfie" camera if you're into that.

The Shield runs near stock Android and the Nexus 9 runs stock android, so both good in that department.

They both looks like really good tablets, it all comes down if you like some of the beefed internals and hardware of the Nexus 9.

That price difference though. I am pretty sure shield takes home the victory in my book. I am sure that the 100mhz core bump won't make a noticable difference, the only thing you would really be losing is the better camera. Neither battery is going to die for typical parent use I would think. The difference in resolution seems meh, as they both have very high ppi.

It's an entirely different CPU with 2-Cores and 64-Bit, I know that just sounds gimmicky right now, especially for a mobile CPU. They both have 284 PPI, which isn't very high by today's standards.

The Nexus 9 will be faster in many daily tasks such as social media use. The Nexus 9 is a dual core but like Intel vs AMD each core has a hell of a lot of power compared to the quad core K1, so since many of the Android apps we use every day only use one or two cores, the Nexus 9 will feel quicker then the SHIELD tablet. In gaming though that can use all 4 cores, the SHIELD tablet's K1 will pull ahead.

Sorry guys, completely missed the quad vs dual core part there.

Is the Nexus 9 will be out before day 20 ?

Nexus 9. Don't submit your dad to poor software support.

I don't know about that, shield tablet is getting lolipop and nvidia have show that they are ok with updating devices. Not sure if the note 7 will be getting an update but i would hope so.
