Hi TechExperts

Please let me know the glass on the display of the LCD monitor is actually a protection glass or the display panel itself??I am asking because a child threw a small type of  toy in to my monitor glass and i seriously doubt whether this will affect the screen quality and the inner settings of the display. No visible damages are seen at the spot. However i have heard that the Liquid cathode is flown through the display when the monitor is turned on and the pixels will get stuck if we touch it.Is it true??Please help as I have a very little knowledge with this type of electronics and gadgets..

My monitor is a Dell S2240L IPS panel.

Thankyou

The glass is usually just glass. Sometimes it has a protective/anti-glare coating on it.

If you disassemble the monitor, you will find the screen is an extremely thin black sheet with a ribbon cable coming off of it.

As long as the glass isn't warped and there are no dead pixels, then you should be fine :)

317 is watching. 317 is everywhere. 317 is life.

I think you have a few terms mixed up where there are two polarizing layers and a liquid crystal between them that can twist or orientate themselves to either block let light shine through, but as for touching the screen or pointing on it, it's not too big of a problem other than fingerprints as long as you don't push or apply pressure on the panel itself. As for stuck pixels or dead pixels those usually occur out of the box and is usually a manufacturing defect which can occur sometimes.

Glass screens usually are used for more wear or contact abrasive situations such as a touch screen monitor or on a cellphone where you will swipe and tap on it to navigate, for normal display use some people do prefer glass LCD screens for it's clarity over matte or semi gloss screen coated screens which can diffuse the color/light coming from it.
