GTX 970 PSU?

Go to solution Solved by DIV1D3,

550 watts is plenty enough for a GTX 970, you'd even be able to SLI GTX 980s with 650 watts because of the incredibly decreased TDP of the Maxwell architecture.

Hi, all! I have a Zotac GTX 970. Earlier I had a 650 w PSU. But Later I saw the power drawn by the card, it was 300w under max OCing mode.

So, i downgraded to a 550 w PSU. Now I think I have made a mistake. I have the Corsair VS550, earlier I had the VS650.

My specs -

Intel Core I5-4690(non-k)

Zotac GTX 970

Gigabyte H97M-D3H

ADATA SP600 64 GB SSD

Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200 RPM, Seagate Barracuda 500 GB 7200RPM

Corsair Vengeance 8GB (4GBx2) 1600 Mhz.

Cooler Master Hyper TX3 EVO CPU cooler.

Wireless Network interface card.

3, 120mm Fans (1 LED, 2 Non-LED)

Corsair VS550

Do you guys think I should Upgrade to a 600w PSU or is 550w Enough? I OC that GPU like crazy...

from previous queries regarding 970 power draw, the Be Quiet PSU calculator reckons 970 SLI will use about 552W so you should be fine, you would know if there was a problem, e.g crashing

Intel Core i5 4690K @ 4.2Ghz | Evga GTX 780 Ti SC ACX with backplate | MSI Gaming 9 AC | 8GB (2x4) Corsair Vengeance Pro Silver 2400 MHz | Corsair H105 128GB Crucial MX100 | Toshiba 2TB | Evga 750G2 | Corsair Obsidian 750d | Be Quiet Silent Wings 2 PWM (3x140mm & 3x120mm)
