Hey guys,

How does this look?

Upgrading from pentium D. I do audio editing not gaming so onboard video will suffice.

I'm set on air cooling due to personal preference.

Wanting to keep the cost around $850AUD which I can currently do with this build.

does any one see any potential issues with this? or any improvements I've missed? (and please don't reccomend a noctua d15, the phanteks is cheaper, prettier and on-par preformance wise).

Thanks,

cereal-guy

EDIT:

I can't decide between the  ASUS Z97-K or ASRock Z97 Pro4 board, $10 difference.

The only thing I would change would be the cooler. I'd go for the NH-D14. It's $10 cheaper and will probably perform better, at least quieter.

I'd also suggest getting an SSD if you don't already have one. Even if it's just for boot, it's well worth having.

Doesn't fx 8350 perform better when it comes to editing? More cores you know..

But is ok.

Those fans are $12 each, if those are the ones you were thinking of. Went with the black Phanteks instead, $10 less and i think looks better, only $10 though so if you really want blue, no worries there. I beefed up the PSU because that was only $10 more (offset by the cooler). RAM is much cheaper, the cheapest price vs GB sticks in all of OZ pcpartpicker tells me. Went with the MSI PC Mate because ASRock mobos have ropey SATA performance. Something I read in PCF magazine a few months back, they were testing A88X mobos, and between this Gigabyte and the Fatality mobo there was a 100mb/s difference in one of the speed tests on the same SSD. They had something similar for when Z97 was released. So ya, ropey ASRock SATA performance.

Ignore the fans if they aren't $10 and pcpartpicker is making a fool of me. But that's what inflates the price by $60.

Do tell me if you like it or not.  :)

Case fans are a waste of money.

Thanks for the replies guys. I can get those fans for $10ea at my local store, 4 cores are still ideal with the audio production side of it with my current setup using a lot of external gear, the only thing the cpu needs to do is the encoding, which when it comes to single core preformance vs more cores, is negligable if you ask any of the audio guys about it. I liked the other PSU since it was 80+ gold and since I'm not going for a heavy over clock (4.0/4.2ghz) the phanteks cooler should be right, it looks a lot nicer so I'm choosing that over the noctua preformance since its not drastic. as far as an SSD goes, I will most likely get one in the future but I have a 2tb seagate drive atm and would like to keep the initial costs down.

What fans would you guys reccomend? also, how much will case fans impact the temps of everything? with air cooling I figured it was best to be safe than sorry.

Without a GPU, you're not going to have much heat in your case, so they're not really needed. The fans that come with your case should be good enough.

Are you going to get the Blue PH-TC14PE or the Black one? The black is $10 less and to my eye looks better.

Blue since I can get it for the same price as the black, ignore the prices on pcpartpicker. I might go with those gelid ones.

Oshino: I don't think many come in the case (2 IIRC).

Thanks again guys for the help and suggestions.
