ASUS G551 and GL551

Hi everyone,

 

I was wondering if anyone had any extra info about these laptops. What I've found online is scarce and often contradicting. Even after talking to ASUS live chat I don't feel I know everything about this laptop. 

 

So, the G551 from what I understand has an IPS screen option, max 8Gb of RAM

The GL551 has a TN panel and max 16Gb of RAM

Both have an i7 4710HQ and a GTX 860M

 

I can't find anything on battery life or size, and I can't find if the GL551 really does only offer a TN panel (I think that would pretty silly).

 

Also being from Canada, I can only find the GL551 on US Newegg, while the G551 is on the canadian side.

 

Thoughts, things to add, links to articles, everything would be appreciated, thanks very much.

For gaming, anything over 8GB of ram is silly. Are you doing anything else on these?

Yes I do lots of CAD and 3D work, but I also have a desktop to do my tough work. I was more wondering out of a matter of interest, although yes I could make use of it.

 

EDIT: I do plan on buying one of these soon, my old laptop just died
