So my brother's set on buying an EVGA 780 for $380 at Fry's (He doesn't want to order online.) I also found an Asus R9 290X (Direct CU II) at Fry's for $410. So now we're set on the 290X, however, I think I remember hearing something about Asus' Direct CU II cooler and it not cooling 290 series' VRMs properly. So I wanted to ask you guys, is this true that the Direct CU II has some issues with cooling the VRMs of the 290 series? Thanks for any responses.

Yup, it seems it still hasn't been fixed and never will be.

F*ck.
