Hey People,

So, I built a gaming PC last may and I installed Windows 7 because I didn't want to deal with the Windows 8 nonsense. However, I have heard that games perform better on Windows 8.1 and with Windows 10 coming out in the near future, I'm debating upgrading to 8.1 (mostly because the upgrade from 8.1 to 10 will be free).

My question is: Does this make sense? Or is it stupid? My rig is used almost exclusively for gaming.

Yes it makes sense. With classic start and boot to desktop, windows 8 is a faster windows 7.

It does, and even if you don't notice it, Windows 8.1 is a whole different aesthetic, and you would probably like it with classicstart

I built my computer last october (except the gpus were this spring) and bought windows 8, after having some friends play some games on it, they said it was faster than their comparable hardware running 7... even though I was using integrated intel graphics.

I love windows 8.1... it has its flaws like any os, but if i didnt like it, i made sure all my hardware was hackintosh compatible... haven't even thought about installing osx on it. windows 8 converted me from osx (installed on a hackintosh that could have had windows 7... but I got better performance and stability on mountain lion and parallels running windows for a few apps)

For start menu, I haven't had much experience with other alternatives, but I love start8 from stardock. Installed the trial from day 1, bought the full version ($5) on day 2. I used to have blinds or whatever in my 98 or 2000 days... they still offer great skin options.... but I'm sorta past that whole phase of my life... didnt even change stock wallpapers on osx.

Most people don't even realize they're using windows 8 until I tell them. Oh, but microsoft account BS is annoying, I don't use the store because I either have to switch my account from a local account to a live account... or each time I open an app in the store, I have to sign in to a msn account. I dont use hotmail anymore. Thats soooo 90s. ;-)

My personal verdict: faster, better, stronger... whatever the olympics say.

I always guarantee that no more than 50% of what I say is useful.
