So about a year ago I decided to build my first PC. I didnt really have much idea what I was doing and still dont really.

The main reason for it was to play flightsim (Dont judge me). I am now playing more games like Arma 3, Dayz, Elite dangeous and space engineers.

I recently upgraded my Monitor to the LG 34UM95 and I think that to run this on high settings might be a bit much for my current graphics card?

I was looking at upgrading to a duel R9 290X and just looking for some advice on weather that would be a good option and if anyone could recommend any other upgrades to my system?

What is your system ?

You would be better going for the GTX 970 over the R9 290X.

Not yet. I will have a look into it. Thanks

now i see that monitor.. that's a heavy one. only a r9 290x would play well at that resolution or a gtx 980, but then is just a 50hz which is not that bad... you need a heave gpu for it, or buy a 27 1440p and it will be better, but i dnt see you changing that monitor :D I wouldn't too ;)

Apologies, I thought your system specs showed when you posted. New to the forum

My specs are:

Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H Mobo

Intel I5 3570K CPU

16GB Corsair Vengence 1600mhz RAM

Corsair HX750i PSU

Gigabyte 7950 3GB radeon GPU

That is still a nice system. If you do find the gpu struggling then the GTX 970 is a better buy over the R9 290X. Your current psu and motherboard would also support GTX 970 SLI.

I was leaning towards the R9 290X but will definietly take a closer look at the GTX 970.

Thanks for the help guys.

The cheapest R9 290X is £379 (Powercolor PCS+) on pcpartpicker. The link says £309 but it is wrong. I have discounted the xfx card as the cooler is pretty noisy

The cheapest GTX 970 is £274 (MSI Twin Frozr)

Your 750W psu will easily handle a pair of 970 cards. You might be able to run a pair of 290X off a 750W, but you would be using a lot more wattage overall.

You can check out some benchmarks in the link below, and see if you think  the 290X is worth the extra £100 per gpu (I don't).
