Hi everyone, I posted this over in displays before the problem got worse, this is basically what I said over here: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/229711-laptop-screen-not-working/

This is what I said, just copy pasted over here for easier reading.

I have an ASUS N55 SF, which is getting on in years. A couple months ago the display stopped working but the laptop still worked. I knew this because I hooked it up to a projector and everything worked. My buddy and I took it apart to see if anything was visibly wrong. We unplugged and replugged the connection from the display to the motherboard, booted and it worked. We weren't sure if it was or a happy coincidence, but we let it be. Today it stopped working again, and so I opened it up and did the same thing with no success. I can still output to an external monitor, but no display on the screen, it doesn't even look like the backlight is turning on.

Any ideas?

Thanks

EDIT: I (rather unintelligently) unplugged the screen connector while it was on to see if it would still output to the external display. The whole laptop shut down and it won't turn back on.  :(

So as you can see I need some help. Any and all ideas would be helpful thanks.

At this point, I can't recommend anything other than a new notebook. I had a issue similar on one of my notebooks. Was it the display not powering up or was there still an image there but no backlight? In the end I ended up having to replace the display which I can't justify for everyone as it cost about as much as the notebook was worth. I just happened to really like that notebook so I did it anyway.

It looked like the display wasn't even powering up. Also at this point the notebook won't even power up, so I'm very skeptical about whether it'll be worth it to fix, but if I it's just something I'm missing that I can fix that would be great.
