I was looking to upgrade my keyboard, currently I have apple aluminum, and I would like the keyboard to have a number pad. I was wondering what key switch would be best for a mix of gaming and typing?

It would be great if it had a red backlight or just white back light.

Any key switch will fill your needs, I personally love reds. This is my suggestion:

CM Storm Quickfire Ultimate or TK. Ultimate is full-size while the TK is a compact board that mixes the navigation keys and num-pad. Which key switch is all up to personal preference. If possible, I would go to a store to try some different switches and find the best for you. A more expensive option would be to get a switch tester.

buy something abit like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cherry-MX-Switch-Sampler/dp/B00I0VX4VS and choose whatever switch you prefer because it's all personal preference. all that "reds for gaming, blues for typing" rubbish is nonsense. My personal favourites are blues, however its just an opinion. Some good keyboard manufacturers are: Cooler master, corsair, ducky and Das.

If you could add $50 you could get this: http://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=514. Ducky keyboards are renowned for their backlighting capabilities w/o the use of downloading software as well as amazing build quality. I can attest to this since I own the same exact model and love it.

If you're willing to take a blue backlighting Rosewill has some nice backlit keyboards on Amazon and even cheaper models without backlight.
