Bottlenecking problems, what options affect the gpu?

So i have an msi r9 270 GAMING 2gb GPU

and an amd athlon 2 64

I run GAMES in with a resolution of 1280x1024

with all the settings on lowest.

 

My cpu is from 2005 and is pretty bad, but my gpu is really good and i am having big bottlenecking problems.

 

Is there anyway to deal with bottlenecking except for buying a new cpu?

and is there a way to make the gpu do more work and the cpu less?

 

Please let me know, i have bad fps and frame drops in most new GAMES, especially source games like tf2 because they need more cpu than other games.

 

If someone could tell me what affects the cpu and what affects the gpu, that would be helpful.

Turn settings up, when you turn settings to low (Depends on the engine) it will offload all the graphics processing onto your CPU. Linus said it best "If your CPU is a bottleneck then crank up those graphics until the GPU is the bottleneck"

well your res is pretty much half the number of pixels as 1080p (which is where that card kicks ass) so ill be surprised if you cant do high or max allot of games just start on normal/medium with FXAA on measure with msi afterburner....

Vram (memory) usage (upto 2048mb)

gpu usage

temperitures

and fan speed in % go in monitor and disable the rest, its unessesary (unless you want to add it, experiment a little...)

if fraps says you're getting 120fps and msi afterburner says your cards only at 50% puit everything to high and retest, if it goes up to say 70% keep putting it on untill you see 100%, if you're at 100% and still get an average of 90fps try maxing it.

Put texture shadows and all the good stuff higher and I would recommend getting a new cpu soon and make sure it is a pcie express 3.0 slot for your graphics card on the motherboard

pcie 3.0 isnt needed yet, nice to have but not needed.
