Well, for decent recording, £50 is not going to get you far tbh. Samson C01u maybe?

But get the non-u (XLR instead of USB) version and a PhantomPower Supply if you can afford it.

If I were to get the co1 what phantom power supply would you recommend?

Personally, I've got a £20 Behringer but it has no Mic pre-amp in it so I'm looking to upgrade to a Focusrite Scarlett - which is out of your budget :(

I think the best you could do with 50 quid is get the USB version and then maybe a popfilter and/or a spidermount.

If I were to save up a bit more say to £70 would that get me a lot better quality?

Hmm not sure. You could then bump it up to a C03 (u) with cardioid  recording (basically stereo) but it won't get you much better quality.

Maybe you can pick up an AT-2020 for that price if you're lucky :)
